In-home newborn photo sessions are all about capturing the beautiful real-life moments that are part of having a newborn baby. Our photoshoots take approximately 2 hours for newborns. We recommend having 2 rooms – your living area and bedroom.
Preparation
Make sure the rooms are warm for the photoshoot as newborns love to be kept warm. We like to keep our newborn photoshoots as natural as possible with lifestyle photos of mom with newborn, at home feeding, with Dad and any siblings. We recommend some natural lifestyle photos with mom and newborn in a bedroom, living room and kitchen. Dad performing everyday duties with his little newborn at home and the complete family together comfortable on the couch or bed.
What to wear
Keep it simple and classic. Most importantly, avoid super bright, neon-type colors, and logos, words, on your clothing as it is distracting the focus from your newborn. See our tips on what to wear below.
Newborn
Babies look best in simple one color onesies. A plain neutral or solid colour onesie is more than enough for your newborn photos. This insures the focus of the portrait is on the baby and not on the clothing he/she is wearing. Hats and headbands are great for adding variety.
Mom
Breastfeeding moms can wear a top or dress that is easily accessible for your newborn. You’ll probably end up feeding baby during photoshoot and your newborn is likely to sleep for many of the posed photos.
Dresses with wrap styles, button-down fronts, or deep V-necklines make it easier. You can wear 2-3 outfits to mix things up a bit. A pair of leggings or tights is also very handy. Your photographer will guide you on the day. You can also have more intimate skin to skin photos with your newborn. Don’t worry about shoes.
Dad and siblings
When choosing the family’s outfits, keep the same colour scheme as Mom but choose various hues so you don’t match perfectly. Dad and siblings should wear solid colors or small prints. Again don’t worry about shoes.
